I usually place such things in physical files. The file in this case would have a field for the "B", "F", or whatever other value might be needed in the future and another field for the type "1", "2", etc. The file would be keyed by the first field and the program would use the passed parameter to execute the keyed record retrieval. A slightly more flexible technique would be to have the "1", "2", etc. values passed as parameters, perhaps in a file much like the one described above. In this case, the file would have fields for sequence number and the type. Each time the program is submitted, the next available sequence number could be retrieved and used to populate the file. All that has to be passed to the program would be the sequence number. Hope that helps. Donald R.
