I worked on a conversion once from English to Korean. They
sent two of their programmers to translate the field prompts
and screens and print fields. They had to bring their own
special DBCS-capable terminals. So those special
workstations might be able to do it, but this is the day for
getting off the green screen, ey?

But * warning * ! I have also done English-Spanish
translations. You * must * avoid the automatic translation
programs. IBM did a commercial a few years back that might
make somebody think you can speak your language here with
someone on the other (Asian) speaking theirs, and all. But
these programs come up with the worst nonsense! They're
hilarious sometimes, but sometimes they'll wonder why you
buried you mother in a garbage can instead of giving her a
proper burial (based on a true story of a missionary who
intoned one word wrong in Chinese once).

| You can certainly write an application such that it can
support multiple
| languages (with Italian and Japanese being two examples of
language
| support). I would suggest starting with the V5R2
Information Center.
| Select Programming Support and then Globalization. What
you find there
| should keep you busy for quite some time.
