So did you manage to use the returned local cert successfully by passing it to 
another API?

That's what I thought as well.  But, prototyping malloc()
worked just fine.  Don't know why I didn't think of that
before.

I'll be sticking with the SSL APIs for a while.  The kit
looks nice, but I'm still not convinced it provides any
more functionality.
