You've received a good idea on this. However, have you thought about having the submitted job update a data queue that the submitting job monitors? - Less processing eaten up by checking to see if the job is still active. - Instead of wasting time in a DLY loop the submitting job can process immediately when the submitting job updates the data queue. - If the job abends, you do not ASSUME that it successfully ended and erroneously handle the process. If the job did abend and the submitting job is waiting indefinitely on the data queue you could have a recovery process that posts an entry on the data queue that says 'ABEND' or some such thing.
