Get the Java person to make recursive calls to your RPG in order to get the
dataset(s).

I can't use pure SQL because I need to do some tests/formatting, etc. of the
data before I pass it along to the result set.  But perhaps that is the germ
of my answer... make UDF's in RPG which can be called from pure SQL.  Thanks
