Pete,
Because you changing the data in BITACL, therefore ITCLS is the same on each
iteration of the loop, so it will always find the data in ITCLS on the
scan--it never changes.

Subject: Unwanted loop with %SCAN and %REPLACE

Hi list!

Why this is getting into a loop? I pulled this from the archives for a
similar
situation I have but apparently I am doing something wrong...

D ITCLS           s              4a   Inz('G08')
D BITACL          s              3a

 /Free
     Dow (%scan('0': ITCLS) > 0);
       BITACL = %replace(''  : ITCLS: %scan('0': ITCLS): 1);
     Enddo;
     *InLR = *On;
 /End-Free

TIA!
