RE: API to retrieve messages from history log

Thanks Tom,

I just looked in the QHST* files and they look scarier than the spool file.  
This to be a stand alone process to be run daily so reading through the spool 
file shouldn't be too bad.  If I first check against the message ID and the 
scan the text of the appropriate messages I should be fine.

Mike:

Your major problem is that the "messages" you're after probably will _not_ be 
in the QHST message queue. Most likely they'll be in one of the QHSTxxx 
physical files in QSYS, and there they won't be "messages" but just records. No 
"API" needed, just open the files and read them.

The secondary problem is flushing messages that _might_ still be in the QHST 
message queue out to the PFs. I vaguely recall that a technique exists for 
this, but I'm no longer certain what it was. Maybe something like execution of 
DSPLOG caused the flush, but not sure. Perhaps this will jog memories from 
someone else, perhaps experimentation is in order, or perhaps it's documented.
