The first part sounds like some fun to debug.

As far as the second, there's nothing stopping you from continuing to have
the external program. However, now gut it to call your new service
program. I've been tempted a few times to go this route.

Subject
Service program procedure passing parameters to an external progr am

I have a service program module that has several procedures. Some of
these
procedures executes a procedure called "CreateMessage", which accepts a
message id and program name as parameters. This procedure executes an
external CLLE program that accepts several parameters like message file,
action code, message id, etc. All of the necessary variables, including
initial values for message file and action code are defined within the
CreateMessage procedure. For some reason, the message id and program name
are blank when the external CLLE program is executed, but the message file
and action code have the initial values specified in the definition
specifications.

The CLLE program is compiled ACTGRP(*CALLER). I have attempted to pass
the
parameters into CreateMessage by value and reference to no avail. I
suppose
I could turn the CLLE program into a service program but it's used by a
lot
of programs and I'd rather not have two copies of it.

Any thoughts will be most appreciated.
