This is a known problem Buck - with no short-term solution. There's an APAR

The work-round is to define named constants. These _can_ use the %DecPos,
%Len etc. as INZ values.

Goodness knows why it doesn't work - but Barbara tells me it can't be fixed.

I've had to change several charts because I mistakenly believed the manual!

Jon: All of us here have tried to fix this. And for all of us, this problem has defied solution. (I believe Barbara came the closest to a real fix.)

We're sure it can be fixed, but it would take a major effort. If we could justify a major rewrite of the expression handling, a fix for this problem would likely be a side benefit. IMO, that's not entirely an unrealistic expectation. The compiler code base is getting rather "mature", and so we may have to step back and do some restructuring work on the compiler code at some point.

Cheers! Hans
