If that's true, that you don't need to define the parms in the CL, then
what was his errors? Or is there a difference between "don't need to
define the parms" and "without receiving the parms"?

My response is slightly missleading, you can use a CL as a trigger program
with or without receiving the parms in the CL, if you don't receive them
though you can't use them, which you are not in your examples.

You can have a CL for a trigger program, you just can't use any of the
values, which you are not. You just want to know a record was added and
send
a message. The real problem is the command DSPPGMMSG. I think you want
SNDMSG to send a message to a message queue, you also do not want to send
a
*RQS message type because the message will "hang" the job until a response
has been received for the message. You could send it as a *BREAK message
if
you really want to get someones attention.

CL:
RMANOTIFY: PGM
SNDMSG MSG('A RECORD HAS BEEN ENTERED') TOMSGQ(_________)
ENDPGM:

ENDPGM:

Larry,

Thank you for your response. So, I cannot call a CL from a 'trigger'. The
'trigger' program must call an RPG program. Which then in turn sends the
message. This seams like a long way around. I have not done a RPGLE
program. Do you have an example of one that you could send me to look at.
Thanks,

The program being called has to receive two parameters, the trigger buffer
and the trigger buffer length. The trigger buffer contains control
information and the before and/or after images of the record being
processed. It is variable in length, because it depends on the length of
the record and the trigger event. The trigger buffer length is the length
of the buffer in binary, 9 long with 0 decimal positions. So, you
probably
need to have the trigger program written in a higher-level language
(RPGLE),
and include these parameters. Good luck!

Subject: trigger error help

I am having trouble with a 'trigger' program. This is my first try. Here
is what I am trying to do.

I have a physical file (slitmtot) that when a record is added a CL program
is called. The CL notifies QC that a record has been entered. Enclosed is
a
copy of the trigger and CL.

I am getting the following error: CPF502B, with an error code of 2 =
*after
*insert trigger.

I did CHGJOB LOG(4 0 0 *SECLVL) and ran job. The error was happening at
the
write statement (RMAJOBNO), and that there is a Data Decimal Error. I am
not passing any data to the program that the trigger is calling.

If I remove the trigger, the program runs fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
