<Mel> Question #2 ----------- The actual storage occupied by a varying variable is 2 + its declared size. The additional 2 bytes are located at the beginning of the field and contain its length. The maximum declared size for a varying field is 65535, making the maximum actual size including the length 65537. </Mel> Just so I have this straight. . . I won't get a gain on not using as much memory because it will allocate the defined length even if I only use 1 character, but where I will gain is whenever that field is used it will be easier to process it because it will only have to work with the first character (in this example that is)...? The reason I am asking this question is that when I go into debug and a view a 32767 field I can see my data, and then when my data ends I can see various pieces of memory in the rest of the 32767 field. That tells me it either hasn't allocated the space or the debugger doesn't understand varying length fields. Any comments on this? Thanks for everyone's responses, Aaron Bartell
