I do not think a DS in the result field on an I/O operation is required, as it
works in a similar manner on older releases of OS/400 as well, even with RPG
III and even when using PREFIX (in F- and D-specs).

Define the file in the F-specs, define a DS with EXTNAME(samefile) on the
D-Specs and Bob's your uncle, as some people would say.

Perhaps adding a DS results is an enhancement, for readability purposes, but it
actually added nothing new to the working of a programme, just my thoughts.

It looks like it will only be possible in V5R2 which is given the wrong
impression.

Carel Teijgeler
