Hi Bill -

Non-Free RPGIV
Client won't let me use procedures

I want to take todays date and
init month / day to 1 and then sub 3 years

today = 20030813
result  = 20000101

Anyone have example with out Moves???

I think you will find that a lot of the suggestions given do not work because people have not taken into account that there will be decimal places in the intermediate results, so dividing by 10000 (or multiplying by .0001) then multiplying by 10000 will NOT drop the month and day.

Use of the %div BIF takes care of this, as follows:

eval result = ((%div(today:10000) - 3) * 10000) + 0101

%div truncates to an integer, yielding 2003; whereas the straight multiply or divide will yield 2003.0813 (with zeros in the additional decimal places).
