Bob, Would it be possible to carve out a subset for the user and then only sort that piece? If the user wants to sort by a certain column, they may want to look at a smaller subset of the universe. When they request a certain column, open a window to request the range or specific value they are requesting. It seems doubtful they really need all 7 million records sorted, they probably just want to see the first (guessing, but insert your own value here) thousand or so values. Although the computer can keep track of millions of entries, y'all can't comfortably fire that many neurons. In short, like all battles, divide and conquer.
