Data structure and data decimal error

Booth,

 the date field thing is a non-issue.  By the time the RPG program sees them
they are in character format - complete with separators.  You should however
use a TEST operation against them - or simply Eval them to the target field
under the watchful eye of a MONITOR.

I see you've already been pointed at our article on this topic so I won't
repeat that info - but I would suggest that you use LIKEREC to specify the
DS you are reading into (V5R1 required) and use the DS name as the target
for the read operation from the "alien" file (V5R2 required)
