Barbara, I wrote: C* Call program in variable 'Called' C Call Called C Parm Pa C Parm Prm1 C Parm Prm2 In doing my conversion to '/free', I find that I must use 'CALLP' and am required to define a prototype for the called program. First, is it possible to define a prototype for a 'variable' ? Second, if I can, why would I 'want' to, other than that I 'have' to ? You wrote: 1. Yes, just code EXTPGM(Called) on the prototype. 2. Why would you want to use it? You might have a different customized program for each customer you support, or each country or whatever. ***************************** Issue: When I attempt to define the prototype 'Called' with EXTPGM(Called) I get the following error at edit (not compile) time: "The parameter for keyword EXTPGM is not valid; keyword is ignored." Changing to EXTPGM('Called') removes the error, but won't that cause the compiler to look for a program named 'Called', rather than the one named the value that the variable "Called" holds? It seems that the error occurs when the prototype internal name is the same as the un-quoted EXTPGM name. Using 2 variables holding the same value seems to be a potential 'kludgy' work-around. ( D Called PR EXTPGM(CldPgm) ) Is this the correct solution to this problem?
