Sockets and Time Clocks?

Has anyone done this before? And could give any info on any problems on time 
clock side.
Have been through Scott's socket .pdf and others and have seen how iSeries RPG 
ILE server 
is set up for multi client. 

But I'm new to sockets and kind of lost on the "Time Clock as Client"? 

Tips,Comments, and/or 
knock in head always accepted.
