Since i'm the one with performance problems who started this mess, I would
be happy to bench this.  I've got plenty of huge stream files to work with.

I can log on from home late at night - while it won't be completely idle, i
will be the only active user signed on.  the only thing of significance
running will be domino.

since you've already written all the different tests, there's no sense
re-inventing them - could you forward me your source?

That's the best I can do. Maybe someone who's got access to an empty
machine
with a much larger stream file available could do something similar. I
think
that would produce more reliable results.
