Hot News for today!

After Peoplesoft announced their intention to buy JD Edwards,

Today, Oracle announced that they will try a hostile takeover of Peoplesoft
this morning. Notes of interest:

There is only a 6% premium being offered for the shares, which is
not very much for a hostile takeover.

Oracle says they want to expand their application offerings.

The CEO of Peoplesoft approached Larry Elison of Oracle a year ago
about a merger/acquisition.

The acquisition of JD Edwards, the AS400 ERP software company is now
in question.

The acquisition of JD Edwards might be done as a cash deal instead
of a stock deal. If so, the purchase could be completed in as little
as 30 days.

So much to talk about at the coffee maker of many an IT shop this
morning. My theory ...

But as I recall, Oracle and Larry Ellison have sponsored a 12 meter
yacht in the America's Cup sailing races for years, with Larry at the helm.
And if memory proves me right, there was also a boat named JDE in the races
too.

So maybe Larry has just come up with a clever way to stop his
competitors - .... by sinking money into them ;o)
