You could use the POI utility from the jakarta foundation: The POI project consists of APIs for manipulating various file formats based upon Microsoft's OLE 2 Compound Document format using pure Java. OLE 2 Compound Document Format based files include most Microsoft Office files such as XLS and DOC. Using the build-in java support in RPGIV you can write programs in rpg that create and fill excel files. It works fine. Have a look at this tutorial: http://www.jasservices.com/articles/as400/001_genexcel.htm Geert Van Landeghem -----Original Message----- From: Haas, Matt [mailto:Matt.Haas@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: dinsdag 13 mei 2003 20:45 To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: RE: AS400 to EXCEL Creating an Excel file isn't a simple thing. Excel (and Word and probably Power Point) use what's called an "OLE2 Compound Document Format" file which is basically a file version of a COM object. Creating one of these files is extremely complicated. I think there are third part programs that can do this (I couldn't tell you names off the top of my head). If you know Java and you don't want to spend money on it, you can use an Apache package called POI to do Word and Excel. But still a few questions remain: Using CPYTOIMPF, I was able to create Source Member containing formatted data i.e. character strings in ' " ' and numbers separated by ' , '. But I would like to generate an Excel file from this member without any human intervention i.e. programmatically. How do I achieve that? Please advise.
