Point taken Tom. My assumption was that since the report is prepared with RPG, then the printing was relevant to RPG. Since then several posts have shown many choices whish are far better, including extending Host Print Transform. Host Print Transform apparently isn't RPG. I'll move the thread. --------------------------------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.MartinVT.com Booth@xxxxxxxxxxxx --------------------------------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Date: Tuesday, May 13, 2003 1:08:02 PM To: rpg400-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Using OO concepts in RPG rpg400-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: >(I am not campaigning for those two things only, but for the whole family of >what is needed for pretty printing. And here is the kernal of the issue with this direction of the thread... this simply isn't an RPG issue (and I mean ILE RPG since I started with real RPG even before RPG II). Like it or not, there ARE other languages and printer files CAN be externally described. For IBM to invest in improving this area for a single compiler when alternatives exist is a waste of my investment in the platform. I do not want improved printing 'in RPG'; I simply want improved print capabilities regardless of the language that refers to the printer file. It's probably been ten years since I've defined a report 'in RPG'. Or in COBOL or 'in' any other language other than DDS or QM.
