Nothing like a good Holy War on a Friday!

The makers of tools that are based on columnar format RPG code may think
it is Satan's spawn.
Some unnamed people :-) may be under the misguided belief that if no one
uses it until they drop the semicolon on the end then IBM will drop that
requirement.
Code/400 will not do a view/indent on free format code. Other than that
the editor is quite nice. I think WDSC 5.0 addresses this.
There's always the "If I wanted C, then I'd use C" mentality. But
columnar is not the only thing that makes RPG into RPG.

But honestly Jerry, there are several new operation codes and BIF's coming
out that will either only work in free format, or are really enhanced in
free format. Start using free form. There, and I've left out any touchy
feely on why I think free form is nice.

Our shop is soliciting thoughts on whether we should integrate IBM's
version
of free format RPG into our 'standards'. Anyone have any thoughts, (Pros &
Cons) on the product? We are using RPGIV with bound modules, procedures,
prototypes etc... and embedded sql. We are going to V5R2 within the next
month.

Thanks, Jerry
