Rob, If you're running under commitment control, there are a couple of things you can do. The first is set the isolation level to read uncommitted in this program. I forget the syntax but you should be able to find it pretty easily. The second thing you can do is add "WITH NC" to the end of your select statement which basically accomplishes the same thing but just for that statement. I think (and therefore may be/am probably wrong) that "with read only" is just for cursors.
