Only by coincidence - "null-termination" uses x'00' and so does *LOVAL.
Did you explicitly put *LOVAL into your field? If so, I would change it
to *ALLX'00', to make the connection with %STR more clear.
By the way, instead of using %str, you could scan for x'00' and use the
scan result for a substring.
