I know I'm coming into this thread late so I may have missed a lot of 
background information.  I have a RTVPDMDFT command which is based on code by 
someone in this list.  Don't have access to the source at the moment, but it 
basically reads DMPOBJ output.

Is this the kind of thing you are looking for?
