Booth, The compiler creates a temporary field for the expression '*YEAR - 1'. Because *YEAR is 4 digits long, the temporary is 5 (so the result will always fit). Solutions: 1. Create your own field as 4 long and use that one. 2. C Eval FileName = 'PRMMTD' + %EditC(%decimal((*Year-1):4:0):'X') You decide which one is ugliest :-) Joep Beckeringh ----- Original Message ----- From: "Booth Martin" <Booth@MartinVT.com> To: <rpg400-l@midrange.com> Sent: Friday, January 03, 2003 10:50 PM Subject: Eval FileName = 'PRMMTD' + %EditC((*Year-1):'X') > D FileName S 10 > C Eval FileName = 'PRMMTD' + %EditC((*Year-1):'X') > > What would your expectation be for the value of Filename? > > The value I got was "PRMMTD0200" > > I expected "PRMMTD2002"
