Rob's always had a good point about the H-spec options. The H-specs should be required reading for everyone involved in coding and compiling RPG modules. (H-specs are applied to 'modules'. Therefore, a 'program' might have different characteristics at different moments.) Some additional considerations from the manual: "The control-specification statements, identified by an H in position 6, provide information about generating and running programs. However, there are three different ways in which this information can be provided to the compiler and the compiler searches for this information in the following order: 1. A control specification included in your source 2. A data area named RPGLEHSPEC in *LIBL 3. A data area named DFTLEHSPEC in QRPGLE Once one of these sources is found, the values are assigned and keywords that are not specified are assigned their default values." Note that each of these override CRT* command options, this provides levels of granularity of control. You can provide options for all compiles from everyone by creating the QRPGLE/DFTLEHSPEC *dtaara and entering keyword/value pairs. You can provide options for all compiles of yours by creating the *libl/RPGLEHSPEC *dtaara. And you can force a specific module to compile in a specific way with H-specs. Just keep in mind that the module might not compile as you expect when you enter the CRT* command: if an H-spec says otherwise, your CRT* parameter values will be ignored.
