On supported products commands may appear in these previous release
libraries (QSYSVvRrMm) even though the program product may not be
installed. You cannot try to sneak in and run them by qualifying the
library: QSYSV4R3M0/CRTSQLRPGI. It won't work. On other products, (like
fax and service director) I've found that I often have to copy the command
into the previous release library in order to compile to earlier releases.

You have to load 5769ST1 - SQL developers kit. Or you can convert all the
embedded SQL into SQL Call Level Interface (SQL-CLI). That's rather ugly,
but it does offer capability to the cheapo's and to people disgruntled
with the precompiler. You could also try OPNQRYF, traditional record
level access, writing a client program that uses SQL there, farming out
your SQL development to someone with the SQL developers kit loaded,
RUNSQLSTM, STRQMQRY, and a number of other solutions. Me, I'd recommend
loading 5769ST1, (actually I'd recommend loading V5R2 and 5722ST1).

        Subject: What installs CRTSQLRPGI

My programmer is working on a mod for one of our ERP programs and the
program type is SQLRPGLE. When we try to compile, we receive an error
message stating that CRTSQLRPGI can't be found. I searched the system
for the command and found it on the system from OS releases prior to
V4R4 (our current release) but nothing current. I suspect that
something isn't installed correctly or at all but I haven't found any
information yet to support my suspicions. Does anyone on the list have
any ideas?

Thanks,

Jack Mullins
