The only way is to leave off the pointer field in the DDS and then manually add it to the DS in the program after the "E DS" specification. Another thing you can do, if you need is to allow the DS to be used in multiple programs or procedures or modules, you can put the data structure itself, into a /COPy member. The down-side there is, of course, that you can't use the Prefix keyword to make each instance of it unique. But you could add the QUALIFIED keyword to it or use it as a template.
