Tom,

ILE RPG - (really RPG-ILE) The latest incarnation of RPG on the iseries
(also known as RPG IV). The term includes the new column formatting, new
language constructs, free form calculation specs (after v5r1) and RPG
'object oriented' concepts (modules, service programs, activation groups,
etc).

ILE RPG/400 - not a valid term. ILE or RPG/400 - not both

RPG/400 - the most recent version of RPG III. OPM (old program model - NOT
ILE). Old column formating. Still used extensively on iseries, but
considered by most to be obsolete for new development.

RPGLE - RPGIV program - can and should be used in conjuction with ILE
concepts.

Some others you might come across that still run on the iseries...

RPG II - System 34 and 36 versions of RPG. does not retrieve file
definitions at compile time-all i/o must be described in the program using
I and O specs. Can still run on the iseries. an RPG II program can be
compiled as an RPG III program with very little modification. Considered
obsolete.

RPG III - Originally used on System 38. Still runs on iseries. Very
similar to RPG/400, which was mostly a slow evolution from RPG III.
Considered obsolete.

hth,

rick
