Is something mangling the descriptor?  (Most likely a pointer or parameter
being used incorrectly?)

If you display the contents of the FileDesc variable after the 2nd open()
call, is it still the same number when it reaches the write() call?  Or
has something changed it?

The other (perhaps less likely) possibility is that some other procedure
that you call is inadvertently closing the file.
