Hans, How about making the database and RPG support integer data types correctly? If I create a table with a SMALLINT it is shown as being defined as being 4 digits long. I can insert a 5 digit long number via SQL but RPG does not support this length of data. >Well, I still say it's "half a dozen of one, six of the other". >Arguably, someone else may be more comfortable with a declaration >like 5I0 knowing that the variable can hold a 5 digit number. After >all, it's often hard to relate byte size to maximum size of integer >number. Basically, number of digits was chosen for integer and >unsigned numeric for the same reason that packed decimal numeric is >expressed in number of digits, and not number of bytes.
