You can also get PKZIP for the AS/400, but as we are all aware
AS/400 software is a bit pricier than it's PC counterpart.

George, I think so. I have tried this with some of my savfs and even the
'compressed' ones zip to about 1/3 the size. Of course, the results you get
may be differrent but it is certainly worth trying to reduce file size and
transfer time.

Are there merits to moving AS/400 savefiles (compressed) to a PC file
system, then zipping the PC files for transmission where the ultimate
result is to have the files unzipped at the destination, transferred to
a AS/400, then restored to the AS/400 via rstobj functions.

The process currently sends savefiles (compressed) to the receiving FTP
site where they are transferred to a AS/400 then Restored
