Thanks for the response.

I meant (a) String s = null;

To accomplish whay I wanna do, I cretaed a simple java class to return me
a null string, but I'll try your suggestion.

I have an String type object, and I want to make it null.

D parm            S               O   CLASS(*JAVA:'java.lang.String')
D                                     dim(11)
D newString     pr        O   extproc(*java : 'java.lang.String':+
D                                   : *constructor)
D   val              65535A   const varying

D s             s             like(newString)

s = *NULL;

can I just say

parm(1)=s;     or parm(1)=*NULL

Which Java equivalent do you mean?

  a.  String s = null;
  b.  String s = "";

The RPG versions:

D StringClass   c             'java.lang.String'
D newString     pr        O   extproc(*java : StringClass
D                                   : *constructor)
D   val              65535A   const varying

D s             s             like(newString)

a.  s = *NULL;
b.  s = newString ('')
