A few suggestions:

1) If your file is unique keyed, you can use CPYF with option MBROPT
(*UPDADD), after you restore your backup. Warning, it updates any records
that already exist.

2) Prodata (the DBU folks) has a tool called RDR to retrieve deleted
records. I think you can download a free trial. TAATOOL has one also, but
it does not support files with date data types. WRKDBF has a way to
recover deleted records also, but I am not familiar with how it works.

3) If your file is journalled, you can write a routine to extract the
deleted records from the journal and write it back to your file.

4) Restore your backup and write a dear old RPGLE to add back the missing
records.

As near as I can understand your question, these are the choices that I
would consider.

We have a file that mysteriously had a number of records deleted. The good
thing is it isn't a mission critical file. The bad thing, the file has
changed, and we don't know when the records were deleted. What is the best
approach to retrieving the records we have from a backup and adding them
back in the file. Obliviously we have to cut our losses on some of the
other
data and re-enter it, but that is better than what we are at now.

Thanks for any help at all.
