Thanks for the advice Eric,
Yeah, we're converting from RPGIII to RPGIV and there's a lot of date stuff
(how long from now to then, etc...) so having these character or numeric
dates in a date type field makes the calculations (SUBDUR, etc...) much
easier...

Cap,

I think the easiest way to convert char and numeric fields to date fields is
via the <DATFMT> MOVE oldfield newfield op. I think using a DS would be too
difficult, considering each potential format would need its own matching DS.
Too much supporting code for something that can be done in a single
statement. Please tell me that you're using RPGIV, and not RPGIII which has
very limited support of date-fields.

For more info on "move to date" conversions, see ILE RPG reference.

Greetings Program, (Tron ref.)

Does anybody know of a way that an 8 digit character or numeric value in a
field can be converted into a date format field by utilization of a data
structure only?

My test say probably not due to the size differential (8 to 10), but one of
you geniuses out there may know of a trick or two.

I've just got a legacy program with a gazillion move-to-date-field
operations that I'm trying to streamline.

Thanks,
Capt.j
