Oh boy digging into the memory archives here. Alt indexes were the way the S/36 handled non-contiguous key fields, the key field start was always one, and IIRC it tacked the actual key fields onto the end of the file (i.e. that's why you see the logival record of 334 (320 plus the two key fields of 7 each). Don't recall how you could actually determine the "real" key fields in the physical, (IDDU?) Mark Allen I.S.
