[ Converted text/html to text/plain ] I'd be inclined to create several logicals that provide what you need depending on the criteria, and be sure to include select stmt's in the LF to get only what that criteria needs, then see how that performs against the combined ( join?). Thanks, Jonathan "Nicolay, Paul" @midrange.com on 04/19/2002 04:58:13 PM Please respond to rpg400-l@midrange.com Sent by: rpg400-l-admin@midrange.com To: "'rpg400-l@midrange.com'" cc: Subject: RE: Combine Logical Hi Jonathan, It depends... do you need the data of the other files for each record in the master file, of does it depend on certain criteria ? Sometimes manually CHAINing the record is much faster than a JOIN, sometimes it isn't. Kind regards, Paul -----Original Message----- From: Jonathan Oblea [mailto:JOBLE@amkor.com] Sent: 19 April, 2002 10:56 To: rpg400-l@midrange.com Subject: Combine Logical Hi, We have an RPG program that reads a combine logical file which contains 3 combined master files (approx. 4 million records per file). This program takes several hours to run. Is there a better alternative logic that will speed up the performance of an RPG program with or without using a combine logical file ?
