V3R1 as I recall or perhaps the V3R0M5 interim release for the early CISC black
boxes.

But RPG IV has grown tremendously in features since that time.  V3R1 did not
support subprocedures, had few BIFs, ten character name limits, etc.  V3R2 was a
great improvement with subprocedure support, and matched the first V3R6 release
on the RISC machines.

About every other release since then has provided major improvements in the
compiler.
