Oscar, you must have had a default H spec data area. Try this: CRTDTAARA QGPL/RPGLEHSPEC TYPE(*CHAR) LEN(80) VALUE('DATEDIT(*DMY)') or CRTDTAARA QRPGLE/DFTLEHSPEC ... (The QGPL one can be in any library - the compiler looks for it in the library list whenever it doesn't find a real H spec in the source. Then if it doesn't find RPGLEHSPEC in the library list, it looks directly in QRPGLE for DFTLEHSPEC. If you were using RPG/400, it would be *LIBL/RPGHSPEC and QRPG/DFTHSPEC, and the data area would look like an RPG III H spec, with H in column 6 etc.) By the way, the system value QDATFMT, and the job value DATFMT do not affect the format of *DATE and UDATE.
