Resetting PAGNBR -- RPG400-L

I have the following code  and thought this we reset the PAGNBR field I
use in the external printer file, but it justs on incrementing, what am
I doing wrong

if        chkphone1 = 'Page:    1'
eval      pagnbr=1
write     head1
eval      chkphone1 = *blanks
write     head2
write     line1
