that originally worked on PDM (he's at IBM Canada now). They have the
equivalent of an "INI" file or "Registry" where they keep all their
settings."

You can dump the index you mention using the following command:

DMPSYSOBJ OBJ(<userprofile>) CONTEXT(QSYS) TYPE(0E) SUBTYPE(C4)

To find the PDM settings scan the resulting spoolfile for "QUOPDM".
