No. You can not add/change a trigger on a physical file when the file is in use. The CHGPFTRG needs to obtain an exclusive lock on the database file. That is why it has been suggested that you have 2 programs for a trigger, the actual trigger program being a CL which simply passes the parameters to your real trigger program in RPG. That way if you need to change the trigger on the fly or remove it, you just change the RPG program which you can do without having to exlusively lock the physical file.
