You should be able to:

Select (max(FieldNameForKey) + 1) from TableName into :HostVariable

Subject: HIVAL in SQL?

Hi,
In SQL, is there the equivalent of SETLL *HIVAL then READP. I need to
find the key of the last record in the file, add 1 to it, then use that as
the key for a new record. I wanted to use SQL, because I have a different
logical for this file already in the program. I think my field names are
getting messed up because of the two logicals. I am using ASSET, a RPG
generator, so I can't use PREFIX. Thanks

P.S. 44/20. Started on RPG II, Can use the cycle, but usually choose not
to.
