I understand where you're at Martin, However the OS "Doing things behind
my back" is a
matter of degrees.

When it initializes standalone fields at start up, it's doing things
behind your back,
When it opens files at start up or when it rolls between existing SFL pages
it's doing
things behind your back.

When you use Input Primary and Level indicators, it's not doing things
behind your back,
It's an agreement you made with the OS,

You in essence said, "Hey OS, You read the records for me and if you see
my control fields
change, Let me know will ya? ""

Well the L1 L2 level indicators are just the messengers from the OS to you,

Don't blame the messenger. It could have been implemented using some other
variable saying

"Hey Martin, Your Control Field Changed !!"

But it was implemented with L1 L2.... A Rose is a Rose....

Just different ways to look at it.
