Phil,

I think it really depends on what existing indices you have built. If you
already have an index by field1, field2, then you're better off explicitly
ordering the SQL to match the index. I don't believe the query optimizer
will normally "imply" a key from the where clause.

Subject: Embedded SQL: ORDER BY

All,

If I do this:

        select * from file where field1 = '01'

and I want to use the order by clause:

        order by field1, field2

should I include 'field1' on the order by clause or is it unnecessary since
I'm selecting 'field1 = 01'? Or does omitting it cause a performance
problem?

Thanks,

Phil
