One caveat is that the lifetime of a static variable in RPG (or in C on the
400) is defined by the activation group the program runs in.  This can cause
results you may not expect in programs compiled *caller, depending on the
activation group of the caller.  OTOH, if you know what to expect, you can
plan accordingly and things should work out fine. <g>
