I believe what he is saying is, he doesn't need the var y so why does he
have to use it?
Why can't he just say for 1 to x without assigning a variable?

My answer would be, because that's how for loops work, RPG being the
exception.

Are you saying that the compiler requires you to use y somewhere within the
for/endfor loop?  If not, simply don't use it.
