This week I made some changes to a large four screen update program. A few years ago, on a CISC machine, compiling this program, which produces a 140 page compiler listing, would take almost an hour. This week I exited SEU, changed to another session displaying my spool files, pressed F5 to see the listing, pressed F5 again and it had finished. No, I am not really worried about the difference in cost between MOVE and %editc. Oh, and why do you think %editc is more complex than %char? I would think that %char has more work to do.
