There are two ways to do this today.
1) Use %CHAR()
2) Use %EDITC with the "X" edit code.

%CHAR is primarily for concatenation, and %EDITC for building nicely
formatted output. But %EDITC can be used to copy numeric values into
character fields using any existing RPG edit code as a formatting mask.
